Calabasas Firewise launched at the beginning of 2025.
The following are a few of our achievements:
- As of December 2025, Calabasas Firewise now has 14 active, officially recognized Firewise USA® Communities — designated by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
- Approximately 51% of Calabasas residents now live within a Firewise Community.
- We have formed a core team of 27 volunteers and community leaders.
- Our monthly outreach and educational newsletter now reaches over 1,613 Calabasas residents.
- We partnered with the City of Calabasas to create a Home Hardening Grant Program to provide financial assistance to qualified residential property owners.
- We have distributed Firewise Certificates to Calabasas Residents who are now receiving discounts on their home insurance.
- We have completed 14 Community Wildfire Assessments to evaluate community threats and developed 3-year action plans to mitigate them.
- With the help of our partners, the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains and EPIC Fire Safe Council, many Calabasas residents have received Free Home Ignition Zone evaluations to educate homeowners on home hardening and defensible space. Thanks to these evaluations, homeowners have made their homes and communities more resilient to wildfires.
- We are working with the City of Calabasas and its consultant Dudek to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). This CWPP will help Calabasas Firewise and its partners better understand wildfire threats and formulate solutions to mitigate these threats.
- We have developed educational materials and held workshops to help residents learn how to stay safe before, during, and after wildfires.
- Our website has grown into an essential resource for Calabasas residents.
- We have attended over 18 public events to help achieve our goal of educating Calabasas residents about wildfire mitigation.
We are very proud of what we have achieved in our first year.
